Nelson Piquet has to count himself fortunate he's been kept on, such was his disappointing rookie year. He therefore needs to grasp the opportunity of a second year at Renault with both hands to convince the paddock he's a competitive Formula 1 driver.

At times he showed some speed last year, taking a maiden podium finish in the German Grand Prix, and the team obviously feel that he has some potential after opting to keep him on for a second campaign.
